ePlan - WAN

The Wisconsin Angel Network actively works to enhance Wisconsin's early-stage investment connection with our neighboring states, especially Illinois and Minnesota. During the past year we have held a number of events with our neighbors to the south; it is now time we look west. Please mark your calendar for October 3 when WAN will host an event for investors and the business community at UW-River Falls in connection with our friends in Minnesota. More details as they develop.

Coming up next month: the Madison Business and Investors' Forum, a live video link-up with Illinois investors, and Investing in Agriculture, highlighting Cleantech and other industry trends.

Investor: Silicon Pastures
One night a month, you may spot Teresa Esser and the investor-members of Silicon Pastures sharing a meal at an upscale Milwaukee restaurant. However, the focus of the dinner isn't the food--but the extra "course" of presentations by high-tech, early-stage companies in search of angel investors. Read more...

Entrepreneur: IPIC
If you had searched the "a.K.a Card" on Google a year ago, you would have come up empty handed. IPIC, the name of the a.K.a Card at that time, wouldn't have yielded much either. That's because IPIC was still an infant--a business plan winning some of the state's most prestigious competitions but still no more than a plan. Now, under a new, more consumer friendly name, the a.K.a Card has grown up, and it is turning the privacy industry inside out. Read more...

Deals Made

While the summer slow-down caught up with investment deals reported to WAN, more good investor-news hit the stands. Venture Investors LLC recently announced the successful raise of Wisconsin's largest early-stage investment fund at $115 million. This follows on the heels of two extremely successful exits for VI with TomoTherapy's IPO and NimbleGen's acquisition by Roche.

Tom Still, president of the Wisconsin Technology Council, has branded the land spanning from the Twin Cities to Chicago as the I-Q Corridor. Within a distance shorter than San Diego to Silicon Valley lies a significant portion of the nation's research universities, tech workers, early-stage companies and more than 14 million people. Through cooperation and collaboration, investors and entrepreneurs throughout the I-Q Corridor are experiencing the benefits of working together. Stay tuned as WAN and the Tech Council continue to develop programs and events that help bind our I-Q Corridor region together.
